After a few sales at the Glasgow Comic and Toy Fair on Saturday, I think it’s safe to say that TGC issue 1 is completely sold out now. It was only a print run of 200 copies but it still feels like an achievement, or at least a good time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished over the past two years.
Issue 1 had only 6 contributors, and now our overall numbers have grown to around 25 artists, ranging from primary school ages to, well, more mature ages let’s just say. When I started Team Girl Comic I had not imagined it would grow this big and this fast!

Financially, issue 1 made a loss, but it was an invaluable learning experience for me. When sending off for the first print run I simply had no idea how many I could sell, my previous efforts had rarely gone over 30. So I thought 80 copies would be an adventurous amount, but I was proved wrong when these early copies sold out within a few weeks. Having to order a second print run increased our costs but assured us that we were doing something right. I also had no idea how much people would be willing to pay, and went for the lowest possible price, which also put a financial strain on the project. We now know that people value our comic and are willing to pay for our creations.
So I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed to Team Girl Comic so far: the artists, the retailers and especially the people who have bought our comics and given us such brilliant feedback. With issue 4 on it’s way, let the fun continue!
